The reason these criticisms exist in the first place is because AHEB has potential to be a critical hit. If not, it would be dismissed immediately instead of analyzed this much. AHEB undercuts itself by keeping itself inside of the nostalgia box when it could be so much more.

The story needs to be more mindful in how it treats its characters. It reduces Joy to a plot device, Banlaoi to a run-of-the-mill bad guy, and Emman, AJ and Hector to a bunch of assholes. Adding a little more dimension to their characters would improve the story a lot.
