German economist Thomas Straubhaar: ""Producing cars in China, thus frivolously jeopardizing intellectual property and technical advantages, cannot be considered sustainable". https://www.spiegel.de/international/world/future-of-our-global-economy-the-beginning-of-de-globalization-a-126a60d7-5d19-4d86-ae65-7042ca8ad73a">https://www.spiegel.de/internati...
"The virus has revealed just how vulnerable our (German) economic model is, regardless of how profitable it has been for Germany& #39;s export industry. Those companies whose production chains are largely international will face the greatest challenges."
"Supply chains, as has once again become apparent, are only as strong as their weakest link."
Spiegel mentions responses to the shock: stockpiling, diversification of supply sources, use of robotics, digitalisation.
Yet very unclear whether some of these lessons are going to be quickly forgotten once the crisis is over -- as all of them have a price tag attached.
Therefore the state should use its unprecedented, massive role in the economy to help companies to transform themselves towards smarter globalisation.
