i am a 57 year old white man, educated and principled (i like to think), and just learned about ida b. wells TODAY. i had no idea that lynching wasn’t just a crime of hatred, but also of economic terrorism.

i asked one of my bff’s how i could be so ignorant, and she said she could understand how i never learned b/c her parents had to give her “real black history” lessons at home, when we were given clearly whitewashed post-civil war lessons in US history.

i had to get this off my chest, because you know, i liked to think of myself as “woke”, and clearly, i’m not. (cutting that word from my vocabulary as well. “woke” is just lazy & dismissively racist).

i’ve got some work to do. i think most of us white people do
