Let's compare the UK (the worst country in the world) with the Czechia (one of the best countries in the world).

Until the 28th March, both countries had same amount of cases.
However, Czech Republic did three things to keep rates down:

1) Close borders on 16th March

2) lock-down 8 days earlier than UK (16th March rather than 24th)

3) make cloth face masks mandatory on 19th March

That made HUGE difference to new cases and deaths....
New cases dropped off in Czechia about 10 days after introduction of masks, 13 days after lockdown. They dropped to a fifth from peak.

UK's cases rose until around 21 days after lockdown. Masks are discouraged in the UK, not obligatory, and therefore only tiny reduction.
So what does that mean in terms of deaths?

Czechia hugely ahead.

The UK now has about 15 times as many deaths as the Czech Republic per population.

You are 15 times more likely to die of covid in UK than in Czechia!

Here are daily rates and total deaths.
Forget about any other excuses why UK is so bad compared to Czechia.

The reasons are clear:

No border closures.

No lock-down until it was too late.

(Czechia closed down when they had 30 cases per 10 million - UK when we had 1,000 cases per 10 million)

No masks....
One government aware of the dangers to lives and economy and taking decisive action.

Another government full of idiots and useless scientific advisors whose decisions kill people, leave them exposed to long term dangers of virus, and refuse to crush it.
