3 THINGS I LIKE AND 3 THINGS I DISLIKE ABOUT #TheKingEternalMonarch
Feel free to refute my opinions, but please please do not commit ad hominem. And I hope that this doesn't come off as condescending. I just want to say my take on this. Hehehe. Yun lang.
LIKE#1 – THE PREMISE AND THE SLOW EXPOSITION
I think it’s the K-drama intern in me who sees this plot as something unique. Regardless, I’m not a die-hard fan of fantasy dramas, but the premise of TKEM appealed to me so much (that’s why I watched it). (1/n)
The parallelism and the contrasting elements of both worlds. The conflict among characters. Everything. It’s promising for me. Furthermore, while some believed that the introduction was too dragged, I think it’s necessary so that we can have a strong foundation of... (2/n)
what’s going on and what are we going to expect as the plot progresses (3/3)
DISLIKE#1 – CHARACTER DEVELOPMENTS
I’m gonna focus on the characters of WDH and JEC. First, WDH. Screen-time wise, very small considering that he is one of the main characters. I don’t see much development on Jo Young. He’s just there. Stoic. (1/n)
I want to see more of Eun Sup’s character in the second half of the drama. Not just how quirky he is.

On the other hand, JEC’s character was well-written for me. But there is no conviction. I would love to see more of her bold moves... (2/n)
....and more witty dialogues about gender stereotypes.

Nonetheless, I still believe that KES will try to develop these characters and to reveal their backstories in the second half of the drama. (3/3)
I got to give it to Go Eun. She deserves an Excellence Award or even a Top Excellence this 2020 SBS Drama Awards. Her eyes say it all. She portrays her character well and exudes so much coolness.
DISLIKE#2 – THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN KGE AND LMH
Contrary to popular opinions, I didn’t like how abrupt the connection between KGE and LMH is developed. They should have given it time. The unnecessary kiss in ep. 5 (correct me if am wrong) proves that.
What I like about current SBS dramas is their social relevance. Through KGE’s character, gender stereotypes are being shunned. It breaks away from the typical damsel in distress type of FL.
DISLIKE#3 – PRODUCT PLACEMENTS
SBS is notorious for its rampant product placements. They even rejected DOTS to air on their channel because the theme of the story cannot attract PRs. TKEM is not an exception. It's too unnecessary.
There are still many things that will unfold in the second half of this drama, and I know that these are subject to change. I'm hoping for the best for #TheKingEternalMonarch. Btw, if you know a Kdrama with a similar premise, hit me up.
