One of the great things I’ve learned during lockdown is that I can be interested in things like politics and media but I don’t have to see any of that in raw Twitter form because sandpapering my face would be more enjoyable.
Honestly, that sounds like something a child would know but instead of being irritated for an hour because I saw some random remark, I’ve muted so much shit. It’s not the opinions that are the problem either, y’all cool, and in person, a lot of it would be grunty party chat.
The medium encourages this very aggressive form of communicating and rewards really definitive, binary conversation. Like why am I voluntarily opening an app that is the equivalent of sticking my tongue on a battery? Why assault my mood like that?
This is not a ‘people who do arguing here’ suck thing. I am not on a high horse here. If you’ve got higher facial sandpapering tolerances than I do, all power to you. It’s just I found I was getting angry and an hour later realising it was because I READ SOME WORDS ON HERE.
This is me thinking about that Patricia Lockwood essay @tnichss shared at the start of lockdown for 6 weeks ok? ‘If I look at a phone first thing the phone becomes my brain for the day. If I don’t look out a window right away the day will be windowless.’ https://tinhouse.com/how-do-we-write-now/">https://tinhouse.com/how-do-we...
