"Scindhia's loyalty saved India for the British", said historian Innes.

Scindhia's of Gwalior along with Begum of Bhopal, Salar Jung, Jung Bahadur HELPED British East India company in suppressing the 1857 mutiny, which began today, 163 years ago.

A BRIEF THREAD: (1)
The Scindhias, one of the royal Maratha families, REFUSED to support Nana Saheb to the Peshwa-ship after he was disqualified under the Doctrine of Lapse.

Ironically, it was VD Savarkar who, in his book, called Jayajirao Scindhia, "a cobra, traitor and a coward." (2)
Jayajirao and his minister Dinkar Rao, escaped to Agra when their small army was routed by the rebels.

Later, it was Jayajirao who helped British forces in eliminating Tantia Tope and Rani Laxmibai. (3)
In 1861, Jayajirao was honoured with Knights Grand Commander of the Order of the Star of India.

His photos appeared in the London press and was regarded as the friend of the British Empire. (4)
Scindhias were nothing but COWARDS and OPPORTUNISTS. They sabotaged a mutiny in order to protect their interests.

I don't want to say anything further as one of their descendants recently jumped ship for political mileage.

However, the history remembers.
