I don't think I have heard anyone explain imperialism better than Parenti.
I'm sorry I keep posting about Parenti I cannot help it.
Whole video here:
I am just going to use this thread to post more of these, that way if people want to stop hearing about Parenti they can mute this. Here is a great clip from his talk on human nature.
Whole lecture is here and it is brilliant.
This is one of the better lectures I have heard so far. A marxist critique of the racism of Hollywood, and how pop culture is used to shape public opinion. I am a sucker for passionate Parenti, & he has some strong feelings about how Africa is represented in Hollywood.
Had to do one more, his take on the Ghandi movie.

"THEY NEVER EXPLAIN WHY ARE THE BRITISH IN INDIA?!"
Whole lecture, which is great. Slight cw, he does directly quote British colonialists regarding how they referred to Africans and Indians.
One of my favorite Parenti lectures, on the overthrow of communism. Here he is discussing what did work in socialist countries, and how this is often overlooked by the anti-communist left in their rush to criticize these governments.
It is always worth watching the Q&As, whether he gets a really good question, or insane person, he always responds thoughtfully. This was a question about Marxism, and I really liked how he framed Marxism as a tool set, and something he arrived at before even reading Marx.
I had a tough time picking my favorites from this one, the whole lecture is incredible, and really connected a lot of dots for me. He is very critical of these socialist governments, but provides much needed context that you rarely see.
Sorry for posting another yellow video clip, but this lecture is Parenti's Illmatic. The entire thing is perfect. Here he talks about his illiterate father, the Sandinista literacy program, and which revolutions he supports. Probably a perfect description of my personal politics.
