I remember those days in the 80s , I enjoyed so much to sit around meeting or village elders in my house just to listen to their flow . A matter would be raised for discussion, everyone is allowed to air his view . You need to see the interaction! Just like poetry competition.
Igbo men would stand for hours putting words in front of words like poets . A man can speak for a whole day with only idiomatic expressions . Even without literally stating a case , an idiotic would understand the context due to the practicality of the verbiage . And their voices
These days they have turned village meetings into “town union “. The mere fact that they’re named in English is the origin of the hollowness of the gathering . Then watch my people spew politics and idiocy . The so called town union presidents whose emergence were influenced
These guys replaced the leadership by the eldest .What do we even talk about now in the town unions? Praise the governor , praise the chairman , praise the senator and other “ stakeholders “. ever speaks his mind . We are now censured and we don’t have the igwebuike spirit again
Igbo literary culture moved away from the obu to the streets . This is why I totally support these social media banters . The lyrics . The vibe . The debates . The satires . The ironies . The street is the ultimate theater . The Onitsha and Aba banters got me so nostalgic
I can’t wait for Enugu and Owerri rounds . We should find a way to organize these vibes into a formal linguistic structure. Odemeje, Niggar Raw , Phyno , Slow Dog , Zoro, The guys in Aba , Enugu , Onitsha , Owerri streets. Igbo lingual culture should be a thing .
That’s how languages are developed . Italian , Spanish , English languages passed through the era of poetical bursts before evolving into advanced cultures
