#Covid19Jamaica have cause my mainly football Twitter account to comment on more local issues than I otherwise would. While I don't see a lot of It I am sensing that some people are having an issue with the government care program geared towards helping the less fortunate.
Are we honestly for real? I see complaints about recipients being ungrateful, lazy, not paying taxes etc. etc. It occur to me if you are not on the list you should be thankful for your circumstances.
The structure of our society have left a large block of our citizenry dependent mainly because of politics and social inequalities. Could some have done better? Maybe, but in their times of need how does that matter?
It seems to me that this energy being spent on putting down our less fortunate brothers and sisters would be better utilize calling for the removal of the barriers that hold a large portion of our people back. Holding governments accountable to create opportunities for all.
A good place to start is by having equity in our schools that a child at Denham town high have no less lab equipment and quality of teachers than Campion.
Lots of people haven't had a fair shake and while some preserve and make it through the odds was always stock against them. Given the same circumstances many of us would be in the long lines collecting these cheques.
A creed I learned and live by early in my working life as I formed a friendship with a windscreen wiper. "There but for the mercy of God goes I"
Because some fought and made it out doesn't necessarily mean those left behind fought any less hard. It's easier to give thanks for what you have than look down on the person who have less.
But what do I know. Am just the kid who grew up with his grandparents in the hills and didn't know he was poor because of love, guidance, school, books, confidence and lots of fruit trees.
