US law enforcement is poor at providing outreach to Asian immigrant communities due to the many, many languages & cultures involved. Recent Asian immigrants, particularly if they are working-class, are often unfamiliar with the American legal system & how to report crimes.
The past few months have shone an uncomfortable light on numerous attacks on East Asians in the US by black & brown people. The culture of "no snitching" in some of those areas means witnesses are discouraged from calling the police for help, or socially punished if they do.
This was demonstrated in San Francisco when an elderly Chinese man was robbed of his cans. The people around laughed & mocked him. One of the perpetrator's videos was posted online, leading police to investigate. DA @chesaboudin dropped charges to pursue “restorative justice."
The American left-wing mainstreaming of police hatred & the de-legitimization of the rule of law in the past five years are creating lasting consequences for communities that need the protection of law enforcement the most.
