I think a lot about how before the Spanish went to the Philippines, Filipinos used to have tribal tattoos. And then the Spanish conquered, tribal tattoos were put to a stop by force, and the attire changed entirely.
I think about Whang Od, the oldest mambabatok, a traditional Kalinga tattooist.
I think about the Tatak Ng Apat na Alon, "Mark of the Four Waves Tribe" who are in Los Angeles keeping the tribal tattoos alive.
I think a lot about how traditions and culture are hanging by thin threads because other countries forced their own culture on another. I think a lot about how for some people, it isn't an issue.
