Just a reminder that there is one woman, no people of color and no physically/visibly disabled people on these task forces. #utpol
Look. I’m not really supposed to have an opinion but I just got around to reading the recommendations for high-risk people and am appalled.
The idea that high-risk people should continue living as if they are at stage red while everyone else transitions to orange is not feasible.
1. So. Many. People. Are high-risk. I’d say a good chunk of people on those task forces even technically fall in to that category. (I have not independently verified that)
2. Where is the financial support for high-risk people who can’t go back to work but will have a harder time getting unemployment if they *technically* have a job? This is a serious question, not rhetorical.
3. Where is the financial support for the people who have to go back to work, be more exposed to the virus and then go home to be a caregiver to someone in a high-risk category?
We know the virus is spread MOST through households. They best way for me to not get the virus is for no one in my household to get the virus. Especially since I am privileged enough to be able to actually live at stage red...indefinitely really.
3a. And even if the virus didn’t spread just through the air, the reality of care assistance/caregiving means getting close. Real close.
4. Don’t even get me started on nursing homes/care facilities.
5. Where are the protestors screaming about my rights? To not get sick? To not die? To be able to trust that other people are making smart choices as well so a quick trip to the grocery store isn’t a death trap?
