Reading Nepali history apart from our social studies textbook will make you realize how much the whole "Nepal was never invaded by foreigners" is so bullshit. If the British wanted to, they could've easily invaded the entire country. We did win a few wars against Tibet that...
..somehow made the generals and specially a very delusional Bhimsen Thapa think that we could throw away the British. The sugauli treaty was humiliating and after that a permanent British resident was allowed to stay in Kathmandu, something the East India company did so that...
...they always had a say in our politics. From that to right now, yes technically we don't have foreign invaders but we've always been a slave to foreign influence. It's not just right now, all major political decisions of ours were made on foreign soil (2007BS, 2063BS).
So the East India company didn't abandon our invasion because we defeated them or something, it's because they thought we could be easily influenced into their liking, a buffer state of sorts. Not denying a lot of brave men lost their lives in war but please open your eyes now.
For starters I recommend you to read "The blood stained throne" by Baburam Acharya which will show you just how barbaric the rulers before us were. "A prisoner of Kathmandu" is a biography about Brian Hogson, the first permanent British resident which gives you a great overview..
..of the 1814 War and the whole Sugauli treaty picture. A very interesting painting in that book depicts the representative of Nepal on the ground begging infront of the British general. Very brave of us indeed.
I'm no anti-national btw. I was just like the others once, ready to "die for my country if necessary". I just dug a little deep from what I was seeing and realized how pointless this was. Whatever happens, we as people will suffer the most, our leaders will sit home and relax.
Good time to bring up a lyric by System of a down song "BYOB" -
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
