In 1998 I had a gig at the House of Blues on Sunset and they gave me a room for the night across the street at the Hyatt. (thanks @johnpantle) Around 2 a.m. Steve Schmidt @SteveSchmidtSES (we were both working on the Matt Fong for Senate campaign) and I walked across the street
and in to the lobby carrying my guitar and a small road case. Sitting by himself on a couch doing absolutely nothing was Little Richard. He looked at us with a big smile and said "Hello there, how are you? Did you just play a show?"
Bewildered and wondering if and why he was talking to us, I said "Yes sir, I played at the House of Blues tonight."

"Don't you call me sir, you call me Richard! Come sit with me. I'm waiting for Tom Jones to pick me up and he's late. What's your name? Maybe I've heard of you?"
"My name's Jimmy Camp and this is my friend Steve.

"Oh, I think I have heard of you. (He definitely had not) How was your show?"

"It was good, I was just the opening act but they gave me a free room for the night."
"Well I just love the Hyatt. I live here when I'm in Los Angeles. They treat me so well!"

(Big, white limousine pulls up to the entrance)

"I think that's my car. Walk me out and I'll introduce you to Mr. Tom Jones."

(Door of limo opens. Tom Jones sitting in the back)
"Tom, you are late and this is Jimmy Camp and Steve!"

"Just get in the car Richard, we're late."

Little Richard said goodbye, got in the car, and left.
