So with #indyWales on my mind and a global pandemic forcing me to stay at home, I've had a lot of time to think things through. Mostly of the horrific acts that have happened to Wales, and why we're not seen as our own country. Instead we're seen as an addition to England. 1/
Unfortunately, it's because we have been for so long now. England began to conquer Wales sometime in the 13th century, and there began the opression of the language and culture. A huge question I'd ask when I was younger was why wasn't Wales represented on the #unionjack. 2/
None of my teachers really had an answer. I was proud to be Welsh and speak the language, but I still felt awkward and out of place. If I spoke Welsh in public around other people, I was afraid that they'd think I was being rude or talking about them. 3/
But I finally came to the understanding today. It's because the union jack was created in 1606, after Wales had already been joined to England. We were a part of them by force, and since then it has led to difficulty for our wonderful country. 4/
The Tonypandy riots and others. The flooding of Tryweryn, how the protests were dealt with. The Aberfan disaster, everything that surrounded that and the way it was dealt with. So many more disasters that I don't even know that well. 5/
The more recent flooding, the plea for help from the UK government by the people, and by MP's that fought for the more heavily effected areas. The handling of the dreaded coronavirus. The overshadowing of the UK government over the WP. 6/
And this week, the straw that finally broke the camel's back for me. The underhand tactics used to undermine the WPs attempts to gain PPE to reach a target they set for testing in this country. The absolute outrage I feel is unreal. 7/
This is a pandemic, not a children's yard where you snatch and steal to gain whatever you can get. The UK governments actions remind me of dogs fighting for scraps. Trying so hard not to be the selfish, greedy liars, manipulators and now clearly thieves that we knew they were. 8/
The disgraceful behaviour they demonstrate reminds me so much of the acts that have been comitted previously. And it isn't right. It isn't fair. Why do they get to do this? Will they be punished? Criticised? Or will it all be swept under the rug as history shows. 9/
This is why I'll be fighting for #indywales. Wales has had enough. It's time for a change. It's time that we stand up for our own country, and ourselves. It doesn't make sense to have a leader in another country, it never has. It's time to end it. #NoMoreUnion #Wales #CymroAmByth
