I mean, is it not more appropriate that a bunch of middle class white folks want to argue that Gildan is ethical and fine? a huge part of your scene is funded via the labor of sweatshop workers making pennies so you can pay for gas to get to the next show like ok
Garment production/decoration in general is disgusting and we should probably figure out a better way to make our music profitable beyond sweatshop labor and making discs out of fossil fuels but whatever
Ordering shirts with plastisol inks is more than likely exposing workers to carcinogenic materials, like the solvents in the ink or the chemicals used to clean the ink out of screens/loosen the ink. I don't want to see any "I care about workers rights!!" shit if you knew that
and didn't print the shirts yourself. For the sake of clarifying, I printed two runs of shirts with plastisol but I printed them by hand at my old job. Some screen printing shops have good safety procedures but most are "old school" and think PPE is bullshit.
anyone DIY'ing their merch this way, reading it and shocked, you're probably fine. wear gloves, a mask, only print/dry in a ventilated area. probably don't print/dry stuff in your house. use water based inks if you can. discharge inks are usually the most toxic.
