It’s such a small thing, but this was the year I gave up after years of begging universities to hire me. I was very sad; this made it better, or at least more beautiful.

I love a lot of things academia says I shouldn’t: my kid, my partner, writing, teaching. I still think I would have been a pretty decent tenure-track professor, but there’s a pandemic going on and new things to build when we get to the other side
