“Test and trace” is what those who want to drag out lockdowns say, but the moment you think through what such a program would entail in a nation of 320 million, it’s an unserious talking point

An army of 100K tracers?

Would take months if not years, virus would spread anyway
Ah, but the experts media will point to tell us that test and trace has worked well with HIV and Ebola,
for example-

This is a shoddy comparison to an upper respiratory infection that is asymptomatic in perhaps 50% of those infected, or long incubation period before symptoms
If you accept the estimate that @ScottGottliebMD gave on CBS recently- 3,000 new cases a day in the US (while under this horrific lockdown!) and likely 300,000 new actual infections a day, how does anyone think that “tracers” are going to do in person visits and detective work?
Test and trace for STDs is obviously a much easier ask, as with somewhat rare exceptions, most people can remember everyone they had sex with for the last 90 days or so

But everyone who walked past you in the hallway? Shared an elevator? A subway car? Good luck
Those advocating for “test and trace” as some great weapon against covid-19 usually point to other countries as having success with it, but the truth is we just don’t know all the variables in play for South Korea and Australia. Singapore isn’t big enough to be a real comparison
Add to this that the “test and trace”
regime would be a turnkey opportunity for digital tyranny, and that tracers would have the authority to tell anyone at any time “you have to quarantine for 14 days” and we are losing a lot more than we gain
People who want to yell at me for this thread, I’m not a doctor etc, just ask yourself this:

Do you really think we are going to deploy 100,000 poorly trained people as the special virus police all over America, and that it would be good if we could?

Seriously. Think on it.
