I'll recap my assertions for you:

1. Excess mortality is the only accurate comparison between countries.

Literally every expert agrees on this. Why?

Because there's dozens of ways to classify and count covid19 deaths but only one way to count deaths, which every European country must register the same way.

By analyzing excess mortality to previous years, you get a true picture of how a response went.

If WAY MORE people died than expected from previous years that indicates a poor response - because a pandemic response is about protecting the overall population health. That's it.

Here are the current excess death Z-scores for Western Europe, March 30th to April 5th:

Week 14:

England: +34.77
Spain: +34.59
Belgium: +26.75
Holland: +24.18
France: +21.77
Portugal: +5.39
Ireland: +2.23

Some limitations with Z-scores right now, namely the median length of time to register deaths varies. In Ireland, it's 18 days but the average is longer.

So all of those scores are subject to upward revision and in fact Ireland's +2.23 is already an upward revision.

However:

There is no scenario, none, where we get revised above any of those countries for Week 14.

Ireland has objectively the lowest excess mortality for that week and those trends are rock solid throughout the pandemic weeks.

Now maybe you missed my tweet seeing as you're not a fan of reading but I've multiple times stated my opinion that *all* political parties in Ireland would have done a good job in the pandemic response because it is society driven and Irish people are a bunch of good eggs.
