Apologies in advance but rant incoming.
I chose to lockdown on 13 March - well, not really a choice, I was pretty much harangued into it by husband and son, both of whom have health issues for which Covid-19 would be a death sentence.
They had been following all the international stats, esp. Italy and France, and had worked out that we were already in danger. I had already agreed the previous week to clear my diary of any central London cases, but by 13th I agreed that I had to stop going out and about.
Since that date I have left the house once, to get some milk, on Sunday 15 March. Every item that is delivered to the house is washed down or, if not essential immediately, quarantined for 72 hours.
The first 3 weeks were a bit fraught because although we get milk delivered 3 x per week, and they had occasional other fresh produce available, we were pretty much living on tins and the contents of the freezer...
...because although husb is 71 and has only 1 functioning coronary artery, we decided that there would be people far more needy than us who needed the rare supermarket delivery slots. Luckily a friend offered to get a few basics for us once a week after week 3.
As predicted by the lad, within 8 days of voluntary lockdown, the Tribunals closed anyway. All cases were adjourned with no date. I have had exactly 2 bits of paid work since, but I'm fortunate that husb has a company pension that just about covers the bare minimum outgoings.
Don't get me wrong. I know how very, very lucky I am compared to so many other people. I know that people don't have the luxury of being able to say "You know what? I'll take an extended holiday".
We lost a family friend about a month ago (RIP Isa) to this vile plague. I have family members and close friends who are nurses and care-workers. I have wailed in rage at the way in which our govt. fails to protect them.
But for me the final straw that has broken the camel's back is seeing the footage of middle-class middle-England Covidiots with their Union Jack bunting dancing the conga, singing Vera Lynn songs together and pretending it is Peace In Our Time. What is the point of any of it?
And I am fairly sure that the large majority of those selfish, self-centred idiots will have voted Tory in December, because the Tories represent their values of "Me first! Me at the front! I am the important one! Make Britain Great Again!"
Screw them all.

Addendum: we did manage to get two supermarket delivery slots in the end, without having to plead "vulnerable" for them - one just before my birthday in April, and one 2 week ago. So we are not reduced to eating the wallpaper just yet xx
