(Short thread)

Here is something fascinating.

Both of these popped up in my mentions at almost the same time.

#1 Thinks Trump is the stupid person on the planet
#2 Wonders if Trump and a loyal postmaster can sway the election for Trump

(I've gotten variations of #2)

1/
To answer #2, recall that any places that do mail-in ballots that I'm aware of also have secure drop off places. In CA, for example, we can take our ballots to the elections office.

Now imagine:

🔹The postmaster making such order . . .

2/
. . . knowing it is a felony
🔹Employees carrying out the order, knowing it is a felony
(The law: https://law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1708)
🔹In large enough numbers to make a difference
🔹Without anyone finding out.

Even if you find an area that is 80% blue in a swing state . . .

3/
. . . you'd probably have to destroy more than 100K ballots because you'll also destroy some Republican ballots.

The Secretary of State (whoever is in charge of elections) would have to go along because how would you explain so few ballots coming in from blue districts.

4/
In a close election, destroying, say, 70K ballots in key areas can sway the election.

But if the elections since 2018 are any guide, the postal workers would have to destroy a few million ballots to make a difference.

Trump got caught trying to extort Ukraine.

5/
This is much more complicated because they have no idea how many ballots are being dropped off to secure locations and avoiding the mails.

It seems to me that one thing Trump is trying to do is undermine public confidence in the election.

He's also trying to rile people.

6/
It's interesting how Trump can be simultaneously overestimated and underestimated.

The idea that he and a postmaster can sway the election without anyone knowing is an overestimation.

This is an underestimation👇

(We need to work on getting everyone a ballot)

7/
What he will do instead is work to undermine public confidence in the outcome of the election, which is destructive and falls well within his skill set.
