Surendra Nath Basu was in cutchery when a mob under Kasem, Musl!m League leader attacked. After a brief resistance he was critically wounded by a sharp weapon. Musl!m mob tied his limbs & burned him alive. Rajkumar Pal, a physician set out for his aid but was stabbed by a rioter.
On 11th October, private army of Gholam Sarwar, attacked residence of Rajendralal Roychowdhury, (president of Noakhali Bar Association as well as Noakhali District Hindu Mahasabha) in the Karpara village.
There was lack of governmental action, both on part of central govt as well as provincial govt in dealing with carnage as well as taking remedial measures. Frederick Burrows, then Governor of Bengal, justified rαpe of Hindu women as "they were more beautiful than Musl!m women"
Government apathy was seen in providing relief too. Even, the relief workers were surprised at this insensitive decision.
