If schools open this fall, states should administer the standardized tests that were supposed to be given this spring.

Doing so would help schools, policymakers and researchers understand learning losses from Covid-19 closures.

We can not wait another full year to measure this.
I completely agree with folks who'd urge such testing to:

- Be brief (1-2 days max)
- Be low stakes (i.e. purely for info)
- Occur only after students had time to re-adjust to school (2 months in?)
- Be returned very rapidly to schools (else not much use to teachers)
