We’re watching Robin Hood because why not? Anyway here’s me on my way to drag brunch after quarantine is over
This movie literally had the best fat rep in my childhood. Lady Kluck, Friar Tuck, and Little John all literally throw their weight around for good. My only other role models were Chunk in the Goonies and Porkins in Star Wars
And Robin is voiced by legendary (and very gay) stage actor Brian Bedford. He married his husband as soon as it became legal in California in 2013, only a few years before he died in 2016 at age 80
Robin Hood is the best form of masculinity. It’s him and Mr. Rogers. Anyway this is why so many of us are gay furries
Love the small child yelling DEATH TO TYRANTS. This movie is also why we’re all socialists
This is me attempting to blend in with the rich
I was so afraid of the crocodile who runs the archery contest when I was little
And yes, Prince John is a queer-coded villain. So is Sir Hiss, though he’s not all bad. But then Little John is doing laundry and cooking while wearing a frilly apron also??
Also Lady Kluck is a lesbian, you heard it here. Anyway in all seriousness...while this movie got panned at the time for being made cheaply, it’s a lesson now on how good a movie you can make with a SMALL SCALE story.
(Side note: AHHH THE EXECUTIONER RHINO, TERRIFYING) Every movie doesn’t have to be world-ending stakes, or have some huge action set-piece and a cast of thousands
This is gay/lesbian solidarity https://twitter.com/takeabookalong/status/1259216920588533772
Not in Nottingham is such a good song
The scene where Friar Tuck is literally using his belly/weight as a weapon is something I’ve always loved. Wasn’t meant as a commentary on fat liberation, I’m sure...but I still love it. And his capture is still upsetting!
The moment when Robin turns back for the baby, knowing he’s probably going to get caught, then just hands him off and says “keep going, don’t worry about me,” is the purest moment of heroism in Disney
This scene where the Sheriff is chasing Robin around with a torch always terrified me as a kid. It’s when this clownish villain suddenly turns into a murderous danger, and he’s much bigger and willing to BURN DOWN THE BUILDING
Hiss getting all excited when he sees Robin made it....just switch sides, Hiss, we’d all understand
Trigger and Nutsy are still employed as guards at the end, not in jail like the other villains, because cops will always escape prosecution lol
One last fact: Peter Ustinov, who BRILLIANTLY voices Prince John, also voices King Richard at the end
