Just finished our 1st parent session. Not surprising, lots of questions about what fall will look like and changes that have been made in light of COVID. I was somewhat expecting to feel a bit drained and down because there is still a lot of uncertainty of what is to come.
Yet, I ended feeling energized and optimistic. Folks get the uncertainty, but they are still excited about coming to the U. I so appreciated the folks with their cameras on and I was pleasantly surprised to see many students joining their parents.
The smiles and non-verbals added a positive energy to the conversation. It was also nice to get the typical questions like the weather, should my student have a car, how big of fridge can they have in the halls, etc. This gave me a sense of normalcy in this non-normal time.
This also provided insight on what information we are doing a good job in relaying and what questions we need to do a better job of answering. It reminded me that we can't just focus on the COVID things, but we have to pay attention to the typical things as well.
Overall, this was a good way for me to start my weekend. Hope you are able to take some time this weekend to recharge and enjoy the things that bring a smile to your face. #EMchat
