Another storm and risk of hail forecast for tonight. The vines are looking great - but pretty vulnerable right now. #yearinthevineyard #bdx20
If you’re not a wine grower, the evening light as a hazardous storm approaches can be amazing. #yearinthevineyard
Can’t capture the lightning but it’s not bothering #margauxterrier. It’s hailstorms in the Graves right now and heading our way. #bdx20
We got away with it, again, mercifully. No hail this time. These ‘Grêle’ warnings for Bordeaux often begin like this: https://twitter.com/meteocontact/status/1259158820842070016
The G-word always stands out - #grêle - and ‘mitraillés’ means machine-gunned. Oh. https://twitter.com/keraunosobs/status/1259208910361198593
Hail in the Landes to the south west of us, while I was out in the vines. https://twitter.com/meteoexpress/status/1259216570854838276
Hailstorms always approach the Bordeaux region from the south west, or the Atlantic coast, and head north east. Bordeaux is at the top of this image. #Grêle https://twitter.com/meteociel/status/1259181902742851584
Early reports - from @newbordeaux too - are that poor Sauternes was hit, once again. The ominous-looking photo over vineyards nearby at Langon was by @Benphoto44
Also the hail skirted close to the vineyards of the Haut Médoc, at Sainte-Hélène and Salaunes. The photo via @KeraunosObs was looking back across the Gironde estuary from Bourg. Hail pic from Annie Tournesol (great name) via @SO_Bordeaux #Grêle
I can understand the desire to collect the hailstones. This was our Georgie and Amelia in May 2009. (NB then not now.)
