So currently there are some indicative road markings before tomorrow's works on OSR, temporary #cycling lane of 2.7km.

IT LOOKS GOOD. I'll be back tomorrow morning to see what sort of separation they put in.

Needs to be visible, needs physical protection, needs enforcement.
Honestly this makes me so happy it's unreal. Makes me wonder why it took a pandemic for this to happen. Why the council didn't do this years ago?

Cannot wait to ride it tomorrow.
So just ridden up Old Shoreham Road, at 1200hrs there doesn't seem to be any signs of construction. A few cyclists, sone on the pavement some in the left hand lane. Wonder when they'll do it?
WE GOT A LANE!

And I already got beeped at for being in it! The new road layout doesn't appear to compute for people. Also no phase in people are just driving down it.
Okay, so my verdict on @BrightonHoveCC's new emergency bike lane on OSR A270. Split into categories.

Physical Protection 0/5

There is none, it's just paint, paint is pretty it doesn't stop cars.
Size of lane 4/5, brilliant mostly but it shrinks in a number of places around Hove Park. And then disappears.

"The Magnificent Disappearing Bike Lane". No thank you.
Signage 1/5, what is there currently didn't stop a guy beeping behind me at the western edge because he didn't realise there was a new bike lane. Didn't stop this guy either. If the signage doesn't work at night it's not going to protect an NHS worker back from the night shift.🤷🏼‍♂️
Junction design 0/5, you didn't do any design on the junction @BrightonHoveCC @bhlabour, nothing to stop a person being lefthooked at a junction, the paint suggests cars take sweeping turns rather than stopping and taking turns with smaller radii.

Like seriously guys, junctions.
Final verdict, 2/5. Good effort but lots of room for improvement.

Need protection, needs better signage, needs better junction design.

@bhlabour @BHGreenCllrs @BHConservatives I'd think getting ETS back together, producing an emergency LCWIP, taking suggestions from locals /con
From where they want routes to go like other authorities are doing, have a week consultation on designs, follow the government statutory advice (PHYSICAL PROTECTION NOW) and then GET TO IT.

If it's all like this it ain't gonna do much to encourage people to cycle regularly.
