Gang, would it surprise you to find out that this book (3rd edition) claims once again I am a commander directing protestors using my phone?

They do say history is written by the whiners.
Soon, when I feel more up for it, going to livetweet this book because it is *incredible*. It's 200 pages of "rioter" porn that just makes us look badass, then 50 pages of condemning enemies of the state and "support are cops". It's so shamelessly biased I'm legit in awe.
Because *I* respect the historical record, I also know exactly when that photo was taken, 27th October on Argyle St. when cops repeatedly bullied residents (not protestors) off the junction. Here's a video of me in that place at that day. https://twitter.com/hongkonghermit/status/1188640500921724928?s=21 https://twitter.com/HongKongHermit/status/1188640500921724928
Here's my own thread from that night. I'm doing one of the many livestreams at the time the photo was taken. I mean, the book even names my Twitter account, they know who I am, imagine *still* glossing over the fact I'm covering what's happening. https://twitter.com/hongkonghermit/status/1188428860456439808?s=21 https://twitter.com/HongKongHermit/status/1188428860456439808
I spent 6 hours on Argyle St that night, repeatedly watching the cops tear gas and pepper spray people (I got very badly sprayed), then driving off, then an hour later returning to do the same.

Here's them throwing tear gas grenades at local residents (and one right next to me).
Alright, we've had some fun with this book being a work of fiction just from including me in there. But here's where it gets serious, and where its rampant distortion of objective fact becomes sinister.

First, this Carrie Lam "interview" with Ta Kung Pao.
https://twitter.com/hongkongfp/status/1259781273234681856?s=21 https://twitter.com/HongKongFP/status/1259781273234681856
Ta Kung Pao are the propagandists behind this book, and they conducted that "interview" where Carrie Lam laughably says "false and biased information is poison" WHILE HOLDING A COPY OF THIS VERY BOOK. https://twitter.com/xinqisu/status/1259686414590992384?s=21 https://twitter.com/XinqiSu/status/1259686414590992384
I promised a full deep dive into this book, and the slight delay in doing so makes it more timely than ever. It's 300 pages long, and the first 170 pages are just endless photos of "riOteRs", with literally three (3) photos of peaceful protest marches. See for yourself.
In the first 200 pages, which is 2/3rds of this book claiming to be a "historical account of Hongkong's [sic] extradition turmoil", these are the ONLY pics of peaceful marches.

Yet it erases:
June 9th - 1 m
June 16th - 2 m
August 18th - 1.7m
plus multiple 100k+ marches
Pages 158 - 165 are of "riOteRs" on the MTR.

But there are zero photos of the police rampaging through Prince Edward MTR station brutalising commuters on the platform and on the train itself. No context, no balance, no depiction of ACTUAL THINGS that ACTUALLY HAPPENED
Still, must be reassuring to know that the worst thing that ever happened on an MTR train in 2019 was someone used their bag to keep the doors open. Nothing else ever happened, we know this to be true because this book would contain photos of it.
These are the only two pics of Yuen Long MTR station. Wow, looks like those "riOteRs" were at it again, and that's the only thing that ever happened at that MTR station in 2019.

I can't help but feel like something else happe... WHERE IS THE MASS TRIAD TERRORIST ATTACK ON 7/21?
Pages 178 - 188 are full of "beating people for different opinions/you call this democracy" pics to condemn the "riOteRs". I have no problem with their inclusion, they're a part of the story. But once again, there is ZERO mention of all the *premeditated* attacks we have endured.
I touched on it in this thread here, where I detailed a tiny % of the attacks we've been coming under since at least 2014. We get attacked by cops, the mechanism of the state, and by street thugs. People only cared when we finally started hitting back. https://twitter.com/hongkonghermit/status/1258618216206630914?s=21 https://twitter.com/HongKongHermit/status/1258618216206630914
There are zero photos of Lennon Walls in this book. I have a whole thread detailing the constant rise, fall, and rise again of just one of those dozens of protest art sites that sprang up all across the city. In this "historical account" they don't exist. https://twitter.com/hongkonghermit/status/1147112942002831361?s=21 https://twitter.com/HongKongHermit/status/1147112942002831361
The only glimpse of a Lennon Wall is on Junius Ho's redecorated office. Mentioning Lennon Walls would require mentioning the multiple knife attacks against our people at them, and luckily those YL triads don't exist so they don't need to mention Junius' assocation with them.
There then follows a few pages of "fact checking".

*looks to camera*
Quite a section on denouncing enemies of the state, showing off all the evil pro-democracy legislators like Ray Chan, Roy Kwong, and Eddie Chu who turn up to mediate. Sorry, I meant turned up to be "riOteRs" obvs.
The only section on the landslide District Council elections, the only FULLY democratic part of Hong Kong's govt, is a small section showing off some councillors who got arrested. That's, uh, basically it.
This highly trustworthy, unbiased, fully complete record of note is pushing the "foreign influence" angle. Everyone is a NED/US govt. puppet because of course Hongkongers can't think for themselves because we haven't yet gotten patriotic national education to allow such things.
Every white person is a commander. Seen here including the New York Times production manager who got his turn as "CIA agent of the week" in the gap between Ann Chiang and then Junius Ho holding up photos of me.
I also led the "nazi punks, fuck off" campaign to warn of the Ukrainian neo-nazis who stopped by on holiday, and that photo of the neck tattoo was taken from my Twitter. A photographer friend allowed me to publish it. He will be invoicing them for unauthorised use of his pic.
Quick bit of complaining about the fake, biased press, and gang...

That top left pic is grand because the resulting photo those journos got is shared by no-one, but we all shared that photo because it's hilarious and has a "what are we like?" humour to it.
Quick aside: that pic shows a limitation of paid journalism. Each of those journos (half of them from pro-BJ outlets like TKP), has to get the photo, because all the OTHERS are getting it. Their editors will ask for it, the other press are competitors for readers/ad revenue.
Social media citizen documentors like myself can ignore the 10 journos who ran over to see something, as I know they have it covered and I can retweet their work later. The other 5 actual journos can't, they have to get stuck in too. Bloggers can go look for other stuff instead.
Pages 224 - 247 are all "support are cops" and document the heroism, the fortitude, the sheer sexual charisma of the brave men and women in blue who come under attack from "riOteRs" and who have never once cracked a skull open in anger.
Wow, Hong Kong people really love the police, but you won't find that in any of the fake news lamestream media, and futhermore
Remember how upthread there were 3-5 pics (counting generously) of peaceful pro-democracy marches? And how it erased the marches that were proportionately some of the biggest in the history of the world? Look how many pics there are of the handful of small pro-govt. rallies.
The Lion Rock pic is bonus hilarity as it only came in response to hundreds of us going up there, AND they had to be flown down in a govt. service helicopter, and I think one of them was seen in a rowdy group attacking people at a Lennon Wall later that day. Something like that.
Pages 262 - 277 are a relentless assault blaming teachers, schools, and universities for all of society's ills. I've blurred the first pic as they published photos (slightly blurred, but not by much) and names of teachers who got arrested because gotta fan that hate mob.
The push for "patriotic national education" is what led to the 2012 protests, the forming of Joshua Wong's Scholarism, and indirectly the 2014 umbrella revolution. Carrie Lam's "interview" by the publishers of this book, which she held in pics, pushes for it again.
And finally, it ends with by claiming all of HK's economic woe is due to the protests. This is despite having been printed *at least* a month into the pandemic (it references Jimmy Lai's Feb 28th arrest) where the first two weeks did more to the economy than 8 months of protest.
That's it. That's the book. 300 pages of biased, one-sided, blatantly mendacious chicanery. It's the fakiest of accounts purely by what it doesn't include. I have almost no issues with what it does include (the actual blatant lies aside), but tell ALL the story you goddamn hacks.
But you want an actual black and white, example of provably false accounts of events in the world via pro-CCP media, this is it. We used to joke about how "nothing happened" on June 4th 1989, but now we don't even need to go back 12 months. It's utter bollocks.
Epilogue: I did more factchecking writing this thread than they did writing that book.
Oh and for bonus hilarity, this is what was seen from the other side of that epic double-page splash photo of China loving patriots up on Lion Rock. This is why you sometimes do need "both sides". https://twitter.com/galileocheng/status/1172721536463060992?s=21 https://twitter.com/galileocheng/status/1172721536463060992
Also attaching this to the thread, as I'm sure the NYT will want to know that their bureau tech manager's promotion to commander is now immortalised in a glossy coffee table book.
https://twitter.com/austinramzy/status/1155672656043073538?s=21 https://twitter.com/austinramzy/status/1155672656043073538
This book's photo of a cop getting thumped glosses over that immediately before he'd just attacked a little old auntie at a peaceful gathering. It's of the most righteously deserved punches in all of recorded history, up there with Richard Spencer getting walloped. Instant karma.
There is now a hardcover English language edition of this book on sale. I’m almost tempted, because I do kinda want to see how those blatant lies play out in a second language.
Gang, I bought it.

No, shut up, this is worth every penny. I’m sitting here HOWLING at the captions. I got my money’s worth out of the first random page I looked at.

I mean come on, look at how it described the June 16th utterly peaceful march of 2 million people.

This is art.
I’m going to do a series of dramatic readings or something, because this needs to be shared with the world.

Pretty sure this is actually libel though.
So many direct lies I can to refute through my own personal videos. Like this, which after the hilariously whiny “police warned of illegal assembly, but NOBODY LISTENED” says they had to gas “rioters” at 5pm.

By rioters they meant kids, elders and press. https://twitter.com/hongkonghermit/status/1160479998496477184?s=21 https://twitter.com/HongKongHermit/status/1160479998496477184
In case you’re wondering what kind of garbage Ta Kung Pao prints, then they are the ones behind the book in this thread. You can see the lies laid out for yourself. 👆🏻

And here they are cheering the arrest of a paper owner who doesn’t print govt. lies. 👇🏻 https://twitter.com/ktse852/status/1293000357056929792?s=21 https://twitter.com/ktse852/status/1293000357056929792
