I don’t quite get this furore chastising Irish neutrality during WW2.

It’s not like Churchill spoke in code. He was very specific that Britain was fighting to preserve its empire. That was its war aim.

I don’t get what the Irish gain was from helping preserve Britain’s empire.

Let’s also be equally clear. Britain did not go to war over the treatment by the Nazis of German Jews.

It went to war because Germany was a rival ascendant imperial power & threatened Britain’s own imperial power.
