You know, it's sad and frightening at the same time, that so many of us sitting here on Twitter live in our own little bubbles and we have ZERO clue about what's really happening in Jamaica. How the average Jamaican is living.
We laugh and boast about #PassiveIncome and show off our stock market gains, and talk about #Prosperity with not even the slightest clue about how THE MAJORITY LIVES, no, SURVIVES in this #JamaicaLandWeLove.
The GOJ has decided to help as many Jamaicans as they can by giving them a little money, it's not much but it's much better than nothing. And if the lines of people waiting to collect are anything to go by, people NEED the money.
Mek me tell unnu bout the other side of Jamaica. There are Jamaicans far more than you realize or even imagine, who can only read their names. To understand what initial their name starts with it has to be written down and shown to them and they look at their own name and get it.
We have people in this country, adults who have always had to rely on someone else to fill out forms for them. Explain things to them. They will pay whatever they have to get somebody to do it for them. So they manage to skate by.
These Jamaican adults are now the most affected by #COVID19. They can no longer hustle to get by & the longer this wears on, the worse their situation looks.
They have children & right now their life situation isn’t looking much better. And the GOJ has a bigger project than paying out grant money. #COVID19 is shining a big flashlight on the education apartheid that we have.
Too many Jamaicans have been and are being left behind and until we solve education, until we ensure that every Jamaican can read and write more than their names we will never have #Prosperity. It will remain an illusion to never be attained.
In closing, if you have a job or resources that can help you make it through this period, give thanks. And come mek we all start to think about how we are going to make things better for EVERYBODY, because Jamaica needs a reset! How can you help?
