I'm starting a new thread where I debunk myths about hinduism which are popular on social media. Such as this ignoramus claiming about 33 crore deities.
First, understand that there are 33 types of Gods as opposed to 330 million Gods due to mistranslation of sanskrit words "Koti". And these are divine beings, not the ALMIGHTY God, no different than angels in monotheistic religions.
The term koti in Sanskrit has two meaning, one is ‘type’ and the other is Crore.
So, somewhere in translation, they missed the basic fact that Sanatana Dharma/Hinduism has 33 Supreme Gods and not 33 Crore Gods.
Names of all 33 Vedic deities:
12 Adityas (personified deities) correspond to the 12 Solar months and represent different attributes of social life. The Vedic sages especially venerated the Adityas and Vedas are full of hymns dedicated to Indra, Agni, Surya, Varun and the like.
1. Indra/Shakra
2. Ansh (due share),
3. Aryaman (nobility),
4. Bhaag (due inheritance),
5. Dhatri (ritual skill),
6. Tvashtar (skill in crafting),
7. Mitra (friendship),
8. Pushan/Ravi (prosperity),
9. Savitra/Parjanya (power of word),
10. Surya/Vivasvan (social law),
11. Varun (fate),
12. Vaman (cosmic law).
8 Vasus are attendant deities of Indra and comprise of eight elemental gods that represent the different aspects of Nature. They are:
1. Anil (Wind),
2. Apas (Water),
3. Antariksh/Dyaus (Space),
4. Dhara (Earth),
5. Dhruv (Pole Star)
6. Anal (Fire),
7. Prabhas (Dawn),
8. Soma (Moon).
11 Rudras:
· 5 abstractions – Ananda (bliss), Vijnana (knowledge), Manas (thought), Praṇa (breath/ life), Vac (speech),
· 5 names of Siva – Īsana (ruler), Tatpuruṣa (that person), Aghora (not terrible), Vamadeva (pleasant god), Sadyojata (born at once)
1 - Atma (spiritual self)
In the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, the 11 Rudras are represented by ten vital energies (rudra-prana) in the body and the eleventh one being the Ātman (the soul):
katame rudrA iti |
dasheme purushhe prANA
AtmaikAdashas
te yadA.asmAchchharIrAnmartyAdutkrAmanty
atha rodayanti
tadyadrodayanti
tasmAdrudrA iti
Which are the Rudras ?
‘’ ‘The ten organs in the human body, with the prana as the tenth and the atma as the eleventh. When they depart from this mortal body, they make (one’s relatives) weep. Because they then make them weep, therefore they are called Rudras.’
- Brihadaranyaka Upanishad III-ix-4: ‘
Sources:- Rig Veda, Atharva Veda, Yajur Veda, and Part 9 of Brihadaranyaka Upanishad where Sage Yajnavalkya is questioned by Sage Sakalya.
As the RigVeda Richa (1/164/46) proclaims:
God is called Indra, Mitra, Varuna, Agni, Divya, Suparna, Garutmaan, Yama and Maatarishvaa etc. but God is one, wise call him by many names. Therefore, in the end of the number of names of the same God do not really matter.
Another myth is that Maa Sita was 6 years old when she was married (🤢🤢🤢), especially propagated by Isl@mics.
She was 16 years old at that time.

3.47.4 & 3.47.5 : Sita told Ravana (before abduction) about the time she spent after marriage in Ayodhya

उषित्वा द्वा दश समा इक्ष्वाकुणां निवेशने। भुञ्जाना मानुषान्भोगान्सर्वकामसमृद्धिनी।।
She had been in Ikshwaku dynasty of King Dashratha for two years and got all the materialistic pleasure available for human kind.

ततस्त्रयोदशे वर्षे राजामन्त्रयत प्रभुः। अभिषेचयितुं रामं समेतो राजमन्त्रिभिः।।
Thereafter, in the third year, the king and lord Dasaratha consulted other kings and ministers to consecrate Rama.

NOTE: Here दश is not used for ten but for Dashratha.
3.47.10 : Sita told Ravana (before abduction) about her age at the time of Vanavas (Exile)

मम भर्तामहातेजा वयसा पञ्चविंशकः। अष्टादश हि वर्षाणि मम जन्मनि गण्यते।।

My husband who was very bold was twentyfive years and I had completed eighteen years since my birth.
What they misinterpret is this.

The main shloka is misinterpreted there.

ऊनषोडशवर्षो मे रामो राजीवलोचन:। न युद्धयोग्यतामस्य पश्यामि सह राक्षसै:।।

My lotus-eyed son Rama is around sixteen years. I do not think he has ability to fight with the rakshasas in a battle.
Note: Una is used to indicate less by a narrow margin like ऊनविंशति 19 is less than 20 by 1. ऊनषोडश can't be any number less than 16. If this is the case then, what is ऊनत्रिंशत्, 29 or any number less than 30 and ऊनविंशति, 19 or any number less than 20?
So no, Mata Sita was not 6 years but 16 years old when she was married.
Then there is this utterly moronic "meme" shared to show Shri Krishna in negative light.
Facts about this, from Srimad Bhagvatam.

1. Krishna is 6 years old at this time (pic 1). So any accusation only shows the warped minds of accusers.

2,3. Gopis started tapasya to get Shri Krishna as husband. Krishna is there to give punishment for breaking the rules of Vrat.
I forgot to add two pages here. Adding now.
Another myth: Varna system was decided by birth.
Truth: In Mahabharata, Brahma says that everyone is born as a brahman but becomes different due to their deeds, a brahmin can become a shudra and a shudra can become brahmin.
