Ru Paul's Drag Race is so weird because my mum and sis are watching it right now, meanwhile I, the only queer⢠in the household don't watch it, largely cos Ru Paul is transphobic trash
No shade to people that watch it.
I think I've just struggled with the show ever since someone said that Ru Paul has taken the 80s/90s NY queer black ballroom scene and sanitised it for wider consumption.
I wish more cishets watched Pose or Paris is Burning for this reason.

I just want people to know the stories, the suffering, the politics, the lives behind it all. The sex work. The death. The struggle. Instead he's reduced it all to flat buzzwords like "shade" and a good face beat.
It's all the more bitter when the people who consume Ru Paul can't get trans people's pronouns right, or stand up for our rights. Because...
Without. Black. Trans. Women. Ru. Paul's. Drag. Race. Would. Not. Exist.
The show is a watered down version of the culture *they* created, born from finding a space to celebrate themselves in a world that sought ti destroy them.

I just... How many cishets who watch Ru Paul and scream "yasss queen" actually care about trans people today? This is why I'm mad at Ru Paul. He had the chance to show a rich piece of trans history but... he turned it into a superficial cis gay men's costume parade for cishets.
