Despite allowing people to arrive in UK throughout height of pandemic without the slightest check for Covid, The Times reports that, as the pandemic now abates, all arrivals from June 1 must self-isolate for 14 days. As they say across the pond, go figure.
The government says it wants to fire up the economy again ASAP. But this new quarantine means nobody will be coming to Britain to do business and the airlines are unlikely to put on any flights beyond current skeleton schedule. But I suppose they know what they’re doing ...
Airlines UK (clearly with skin in the game) warns 14-day quarantine for passengers would “effectively kill international travel to and from the UK” + cause “immeasurable damage to aviation industry and wider UK economy.
“Nobody is going to go on holiday if they’re not able to resume normal life for 14 days, and business travel would be severely restricted”. Could be final nail in coffin for BA and EasyJet if UK stays closed to international travel into Autumn.
