The “Grievance Studies” hoax *does not* show what its authors and supporters claim it shows. Did not show that, and couldn’t test whether, gender (etc.) journals were more likely to publish than others. No control group. No systematic choice of journals.

The “Grievance Studies” hoax *does not* show what its authors, and its right-wing supporters, claim it shows. The authors presented fabricated data. Sought to harm journals. Misreported their data on publication. Hid their funding. https://xyonline.net/sites/xyonline.net/files/2020-05/Lagerspetz%2C%20The%20%22Grievance%20Studies%20Affair%22%20project%202020.pdf
There are over 130 journals listed on the Scopus database linked with Gender Studies ( https://www.scimagojr.com/journalrank.php?category=3318). After sustained effort, the Grievance Studies authors managed to get fraudulent papers published in 4 of them. It's absurd to think that's an indictment of the field
... I'd like to be responding to the various comments coming through on the Grievance Studies hoax. But, I've got a lecture to write for Monday morning, and a 40-pp chapter to absorb as part of it, so that will have to wait.
Helen Pluckrose, co-author of the hoax, herself acknowledged to me in correspondece yesterday that the hoax *could* not be used to make claims about Gender Studies overall. Strangely, she's now blocked me so I can't see that acknowledgement, but here's my side of this.
