I have huge issues with Pieta House being presented as the sole solution to mental health issues. When I was 17 and suicidal I went to Pieta House, they tried to tell me that it was internalised homophobia and a lack of vitamins that made me suicidal.

Two years later I was finally diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. Nothing to do with my sexuality or vitamin intake. A Christian charity cannot substitute adequate mental health facilities.

So many people have benefited from Pieta House& #39;s services and I don& #39;t want to discount that. But it& #39;s not for everyone - and the people that this service leaves behind are often those that are most in need of help. We need real funding for mental illness healthcare now.
