Thread on #Jaguars Gardner Minshew
No one is open on their inital break, but Minshew does a nice job of extending the play and throw on the run for the TD.
Steps up into the pocket to buy himself more time, quickly progresses through his reads, and finds an open man.
Minshew has some really underated elusiveness. Broke Emmanuel Ogbah's ankles here.
He may not have the biggest arm, but he's more than capable of getting the ball down field accurately.
One of the most impressive aspects of Minshew's game was his ability to throw with timing and anticipation right off the bat. This was his first game as a pro.
Look at where the WR is when the ball is thrown Vs. when the ball is caught.
The ball is out before the WR has his head turned back. The ball arrives just as the receiver turns around, preventing the corner from being able to react to the back shoulder throw.

Defense crashes down on the right side. Minshew just side steps to the right and takes off for a 20 yard gain.
This is an example of Minshew believing what he is seeing on the field and throwing his receiver open.
Even though his receiver doesn't look open when he throws the ball, Minshew has to read the body language of that DB covering the deep left side of the field and understand that they are going to sit down to cover the hitch underneath.
I was really impressed with how consistently Gardner Minshew was able to throws these back shoulder throws down field with accuracy and timing.
Again another well placed back shoulder throw.
Gets pressured up the middle. Throws this ball across his body, but still places it away from the trailing defender.
4th & 10. 52 seconds left. Down by 7.
Minshew seemed to excel in the big moments. Makes a huge play on the game winning drive to move the chains.

On that same drive, instead of taking the sack, Minshew jukes out JJ Watt for the modest gain in the redzone.
Minshew secures what should have been the game-tying touchdown, only for the Jaguars to squander it by running Leonard Fournette up the middle afterwards on the 2 point conversion.
Minshew did everything he could to put the Jaguars in a position to beat the Texans.

Accuracy >>> Arm Strength
Touch throw on this deep touchdown.
Minshew was just exploiting Malcolm Butler this game...
Really great ball placement over the shoulder. Should've been another touchdown.
Minshew is so poised under pressure.
LB gets a free lane blitzing up the B gap. Minshew evades the pressure, extends the play, and finds an open receiver on the sideline.

I have no idea how he doesn't get sacked here...
Minshew Magic.
Minshew Magic.
More anticipatory throws. The ball arrives right as the receiver makes his break.
Phenomenal deep ball placement. Drops this ball right over the defender.
Minshew has just a really natural feel for subtle movements in the pocket.
On this play, he steps up to avoid the pass rush from the left edge. He then finds a new launch point and resets his feet.

Soo many back shoulder throws. The placement on the sideline is ridiculous.
On this rollout, Minshew demonstrates the ability to throw an accurate ball on the run.
Minshew's poise under pressure is really impressive. Never seems to get rattled.
Even in his own endzone, he doesn't panic when the pressure gets to him. He simply goes through progressions quickly and finds the open man.

Leonard Fournette is useless as a pass blocker.
Minshew's lateral quickness saved him a ton from getting sacked and he can run when has to.
Minshew somehow evades the tackle from Jamal Adams and finds a wide open receiver down the field for a TD.
During his rookie season, Minshew had the perfect balance between making plays within the offense and going out of structure to create his own production when necessary.
Another dime down the field outside the numbers.
Minshew does a great job of throwing his receiver open on this play. As a rookie, you can tell that Minshew sees things before they happen. His receiver doesn't have to be open for him to throw the ball.
For example on the previous play, the receiver does not look open when Minshew winds up to throw.
However, he understands based on the route combination and body language that the defender underneath is going to come down to cover the shallow crosser.

Again look at the timing and the eye discipline. You don't need elite arm strength to be successful in this league.
Minshew initially looks to the left side. However, he works back to the right and without pause he quickly throws the ball while the receiving is making his break. Minshew is able to fit this ball into the zone because he throws with anticipation.
OL fails to pick up the stunt from Shaq Barrett. However, Minshew is still able to work off script and deliver the touchdown.
Evades the pressure and throws a touchdown off platform.
lol watch #60 AJ Cann on this play. Minshew is unfazed.
Watch how as Minshew rolls out of the pocket, the LB's have to step up to account for him. This leaves his receiver wide open up the seam.
Made this whole thread just to say Minshew deserves more recognition as a franchise QB. He just threw for 3,271 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, only 6 INT's, and was 6-6 as starter. AS A ROOKIE.
