Online Courses Demystified - Part 2

Sometime ago, I demystified the creation and selling of online courses. In that thread, I showed you the processes of validating your online course idea, creating it and then selling it.

Today, ...

...I'm doing another thread on creating and selling online courses.

The focus of this thread is to share a practical experience of how I created an online course with my smartphone and began to sell it the same week without even being done with its creation.

During the lockdown, I was thinking of a way to empower the youths of my church with some of the skills I had.

I thereafter asked them in the church youths WhatsApp group if they would be interested in learning graphics design with their smartphones.

They replied yes.

I thereafter created a new group and added those who were interested.

And so, the training started.

In the course of the training, I saw an advert on Mr. @iamemekanobis WhatsApp status about Canva graphics design training.

I enrolled for the course and upgraded myself.

So, all I was learning in the training, I was also teaching the youths in my group.

The more you teach the better you become - that's a fact.

I discovered I was getting better and my confidence level soared higher.

One day, I decided to do a birthday graphics design...

..for someone in a group I belong called Creation Hub founded by @moneysensedean.

I put it up in the group and got good reviews about it.

I then decided to do free designs for 5 other people within the group.

Here are other designs I did free of charge.

The designs were commended by the recipients and then it struck me, I could actually create an online course with this skill.

I got to work immediately.

I designed my presentation slides there in Canva listing out all I was going to teach and immediately began recording using mobizen app screen recorder.

One of those I did the free designs for contacted me and wanted to learn how to design himself.

I told him the cost and he..

...paid the following day.

And so, as I was recording the videos and compressing the size with Video Panda app, I was sending it to him one after the other.

Another person in the Creation Hub group also contacted me and paid for the training.

Now that I knew it would sell, I..

..began to use my WhatsApp status to advertise the course.s

Right now, I have the course uploaded on Google Drive.

I thereafter created a support group on WhatsApp where I provide support to anyone who purchases the course.

In conclusion, creating an online course is not a big deal.

1. Identify if there's a market for it.

2. Create the course and offer it for free to some people to get testimonials.

3. Use the testimonials to show proof that your course works.
