So, there's a cat that patrols our garden daily. It's a tiny, slender thing and I suspected it was feral. A couple of months ago we saw it being... romanced... by another cat & "it" became "she".
I worried that she was going to have kittens and watched over the coming weeks to see if she looked pregnant. She avoids us so it was hard to tell but I thought she had a bit of a waddle going on as the weeks passed.
She passed the window the other day & she's looking extra skinny & is definitely nursing. So now I'm buying cat food and putting it out to help her out & hopefully be able to catch her at some point. J doesn't believe me when I say I don't want a cat.
I don't. Honest. I haven't picked a name or anything. She's coming to the house now to eat the catfood and we'll try to see if we can get her to trust us. I don't have an end game - animal shelter? getting her spayed? I don't know. But I definitely don't want a cat.
And here she is, the cat I do not have
#Notmycat is back again.
Came downstairs a bit later than usual after not topping up the food dish last night. Found the cat that is not ours sitting outside the sliding door, waiting. She shot off when I opened the door but came straight back once I'd filled up.
Yeah, we definitely have kittens...
And now a third has made an appearance... #kittenskittenseverywhere
Topped up the cat food outside earlier this evening. Heard some scrabbling about and went to check if the cat had brought the kittens. The cat was there at the dish alright but the noise was coming from the hedgehog next to her. #weirdspringwatch
It's back. #catfoodthievery
Who wants to play Spot Kitten4 of the strays in our garden?
The cat that is not ours has taken to sitting outside until we top up the cat biscuits with wet cat food. She's gotten awful choosey for a beast whose dietary highlights until recently were unfortunate mice and birdbath water.
We split the shopping between 2 shops yesterday so I sent J off with a list that included "cat food - wet" for the cat we do not have and I picked up dry food on my list. J went a little off list and now apparently we have a cat food shelf. For the cats we do not have.
We haven't named the stray cat but I'm playing with ideas. Here she is, waiting, because there is only dry food in the bowl, she is not impressed by this and she would like to speak to my manager. Karen?
The cat we do not have arrives at dinner time and find only dry food. She is displeased.
Service was not improved at an acceptable speed so the protest was brought to our door. This is the look of a cat who has resentfully eaten cat biscuits while staring at you.
Kitten development... only 2 though of the 4 we thought she still had
Today's kitten count?

4

Now, if anyone has tips on how we can catch the bouncy little buggers....?
Yes, I'm sitting outside a supermarket, waiting for it to open, so I can buy wet catfood as the cat we do not have and her kittens ate it all yesterday and I've been stared at this morning for only putting dry food out. This is my life now
Weeks we've been on with this & we're going through 3 tins of cat food a day. Yesterday I bought some cat crack treats & 2 hours into the experiment there's been a cat & a kitten in the living room
Alison free-ranges on, seemingly unaware of her impending doom....
Our experiment with cat crack treats continues...
Ok guys, just how hungry are you this morning?
I see
Totally normal Saturday breakfast time in a zero cat household
So, we caught one of the kittens. We think it's a girl and we call her Shadow. She was displeased at being caught and safe to say everyone was a little traumatised. We have an appointment to hand her over to the shelter tomorrow.
She looks like butter wouldn't melt now but last night she used the makeshift litter tray, ate about half of it and threw the rest out of the cage. But she's purred and eaten chicken from my hand this morning so I think we're friends again
We found out yesterday that the tiny ginger tom that we gave off to the shelter a few weeks ago has now been adopted. Happy life, little man
The kitten is in the office with @SomeBetterMan We upgraded the litter tray from edible cardboard to a small plastic paint tray. From my desk in the kitchen I can hear J praising her for using it. I've never loved him more
This is the aftermath of her tossing her cell last night
Tiny Shadow was dropped off at the shelter this morning. She'd gone from all teeth, claws & fury 2 days ago to purring & letting me scritch ears (with only claws & fury if you tried to pick her up). Purr on, little lady
Kitten 3 caught. Some initial hysteria and a not insignificant amount of urine. Giving her* a little time to calm down

*we're assuming at the moment. It seems to soon in our relationship to check our her undercarriage
Kitten 4 - bumper kitten harvest today. They're getting older and the cat could be gearing up for another litter so we just need to get the job done. It's not a lot of fun though.
And so kitten 5 was caught this morning. We tricked him with cheap chicken slices and no one is proud of this. Dropped straight off at the shelter - no muss, minor fuss, small amount of sprayed urine. Farewell small angry cat
This morning we caught the cat in a trap on loan from a local shelter and the vet is expecting us later. Apparently we should be able to pick her up this evening and release her if everything is ok. Introducing Delphine, the cat we do not have...
