after rewatching Memories of Phantasm while (slowly) working on the script for my touhou abridged remake, i gotta say
it's...really not that great, i should've realized this back when i was a dumb teenager

it boils down to 2 main problems for me, the 1st one being the characters
most characters use a lot of traits from fanon (which i guess makes sense since this is fanmade) as opposed to their canon personalities, which you probably wouldn't notice if you haven't played the games

also reimu is super overpowered
the final issue i have is the stories themselves. they're basically retellings of the plots from the games, yet they're so rushed it makes me wonder why they didn't just have like 10 episodes focus on one game, instead of trying to cram in everything at once
for real like each game story could be like 1 full arc
also some fights are just shortened or omitted entirely
like in the imperishable night arc the fight with Keine is just missing?
that would've been cool to see

i'll give credit where it's due tho
the animation, especially for some of the fight scenes are fantastic
also the music is boppin

but yea that was my whole touhou related tangent
nothing to see here keep scrolling

going back to this thread one more time but The Sealed Esoteric History is a touhou fanime that i think is worth watching imo
it focuses on two lesser known characters as well as delve into the backstories of some other characters and the world they live in
