/ Dear #hivemind... I'm hunting for engaging examples/inspirations of how to visualize #Census/population/demographic data as part of my work with @ONS. Please do share any you've seen! I'm going to start sharing some of my own favourites in this thread #dataviz #censusdataviz
/ DataUSA https://datausa.io/  -- This is like a Wikipedia of data on the US. Get lost browsing through data profiles and charts on places, industries etc etc, all linked to one another, and also do side-by-side comparisons, create your own maps/charts and download data
/ https://density.website  -- Another USA example that is based purely on #Census data. Lets you navigate through every small "tract" in the US Census, and shows how each compares to others on various scales. They also have this associated Twitterbot account @everytract
/ https://onsvisual.github.io/housingaffordability/ -- a nice UK example here from @ONS, mashing up population income data with house price data to create mapping of housing affordability down to a very local level
/ https://kepler.gl/demo/ukcommute  -- Last one for today... an impressive #bigdata viz example using #KeplerGL (over 600,000 rows of data), visualizing daily commutes in England and Wales based on 2011 Census data #censusdataviz
/ https://bothness.github.io/census-livework/ -- Inspired by the above example, I put together this interactive map to explore the connections between where people lived and worked in 2011 (the last UK Census). It gets its data from the Nomis API https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/api/v01/help  which is free to use
/ Another project I worked on here that uses population data to generate map-based stories of hundreds of individual communities. The idea is to depict a bigger picture story of geographic and demographic change over time https://twitter.com/bothness/status/1260193061986095104?s=19
/ This week I'm helping to host a discussion on #Census #dataviz with @DataVizSociety. If you're not a member, feel free to add to the discussion here. I'll be trying to post the topics and highlights on this thread. Today Q1 on #bigdata exploration... https://twitter.com/bothness/status/1264819229980844032?s=19
