Newsjacking - what is it?

Reactively jumping on news stories putting clients at the centre of the conversation by offering advice, tips, opinions or sometimes data to add value to a journalist's story!

Journalists are crying out for expert comments ...
to make their story solid and reliable. And yes we build links in this way!

For example ... Brighthouse went into administration and we offered a comment from Ask Traders (forex trading and stocks and share market) and landed on The Guardian with a link (and followed)
We've landed a mix of homepage links, links to graphs, links to data reports on-site or bio pages of the author. We set all these up ready to ensure we get links back for this activity.

And it worked! 403 media and 222 links placements in the last 7 months on sites like...
DailyMail, Guardian, Express, The Sun, This is Money, Forbes to name a few.

When the client came to us, they'd pretty much never got a link on a national.

And if you don't believe me, here's the full link doc of every link we've built for them...

Newsjacking positions your brand as an expert in that field! Owning your market - so much now that when a finance story breaks, journalists come to us for comments now to add to their story!

But you mentioned sports gambling? How does it work in that industry?
This strategy can be used for pretty much any industry. Sports, Property, education, motor, travel to name a few. But AT SCALE, it works best in finance, health + sports gambling.

When I first started in this industry I worked on Ladbrokes where I started this strategy for them
I pushed out odds and comments about absolutely everything on behalf of Ladbrokes and landed at least 20 links a month from this strategy. We landed more links using newsjacking for Ladbrokes that any other strategy.

Examples?...
Royal baby - boy or girl? We pushed odds
Celebrity Big brother winner - we pushed odds
Grand National - we pushed odds

But it doesn't work if you're slow. You have to be ON IT! Monitoring live news and reacting quick. Building relationships with key journos so they take yours!
Which is why we have a dedicated newsjacking team! They have BBC, Guardian and more live on their laptops at all times, spotting the opportunities.

Once Ladbrokes ended, I duplicated this strategy for a new client at the time OddsMonkey.
They were struggling to land links against the big boys (William Hill, Ladbrokes, paddy power at the time) and in 12 months we landed over 200 for them! On the likes on NBC sports!

You had to be on your toes, and have to be quick to win the game.
Ok you like the sound of this for your niche but what if you don't have experts to offer these comments?

We do! We have a team of ghostwriters, experts in multiple niches from finance, property, health that can help you.

But what impact does it have on search?
Ok Google is looking for 3 things right? Authority, expertise and trust! Newsjacking ticks ALL these boxes!

Positioning our client as an ex expert, to get links from the guardian that drive authority and create trust in a serious topic is the perfect strategy in this niche
So much that already we've seen a 288% increase in organic traffic!

We caught the attention of the CEO - asking how the hell are these guys at Rise at Seven doing this! He had a personal goal of getting a link on a certain publication. We went and got him that!
If you want to know more... @WillHobson - the newsjacking QUEEN!
