1st book finished for #asianreadathon: The Authentics, by Abdi Nazemian. Fit the challenge “read a book featuring an asian character or by an asian author you can relate to” because I too am a SoCal iranian american girl who drinks several cups of cardamom tea in one sitting.
Book #2 for #asianreadathon: Heroine Worship, by Sarah Kuhn. 2nd in the Heroine trilogy. (I swear the cover is on that ipad!) counting this as “book recommended by an asian” bc my sister told me to go read it, even though I was the one who originally recommended Kuhn to her.https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😅" title="Smiling face with open mouth and cold sweat" aria-label="Emoji: Smiling face with open mouth and cold sweat">
Book #3 for #asianreadathon: They Called Us Enemy, by George Takei. I don’t have a picture for this one, which is ironic since it’s a graphic memoir. Anyway, I read it one quick go and cried, cause how do you not.
Book #7 for #asianreadathon: After She Wrote Him, by Sulari Gentill. Reminiscent of Mr Fox but with both a narrower focus and a more satisfying conclusion (bc of the narrow focus, I suspect). A short, tightly-constructed read; I loved it and wish I’d written it.
Book #8 (& almost certainly last) for #asianreadathon: Anna K, by Jenny Lee. A Gossip Girl-y adaptation of Anna Karenina? Hell yes. It’s fun, it’s soapy, it’s got a weird underdeveloped prose style but im okay with that, & I’m obsessed with the cover.
I’m obviously not gonna stop reading books by asian & asian American authors just because this readathon is over, that would be both weird of me & pretty freaking sad when I realized I never got to read some of my fave authors again. but it IS the end of...this thread!
