In the time of crisis, it is natural to yearn for home. Sentiment wise, local reverse migration isn't different from returning overseas Indians.

Those able to make it will eventually think of the trade off - ₹8K in local town vs ₹12K in state capital vs ₹16K in distant metro.
Migrant labour also seems to have had varying experience across states during the lockdown.

The states which had the compassion or the delivery systems to ensure that the basic needs of these individuals were met may see people coming back. Others may see labour shortages.
The labour surplus states are trying to create local jobs. This is not an easy problem to solve. Each state looking a couple of million jobs to be created to retain people in native lands.

This job creation challenge isn't trivial. Couple of quarters of uneasy balance ahead.
Migrant labourers apply to come back to Haryana. States which have managed the crisis well and where the working class wasn't "othered" will see faster normalization of economic activity. https://twitter.com/NavroopSingh_/status/1259004067457536001?s=19
