Good Lord! We took in a stray cat who we quickly realized was w/ kittens. Being a wild girl, I thought she's have her babes secretly, outside.
Instead, she came up nest to me, purring wildly, then went into labor, and had me midwife the birth of three kittens -

She really asked me for my involvement, insisting I rub her tummy, presenting herself for rubs between her shoulder-blades, & purring wildly as I talked to her.
I don't think this is normal - anyone?
Well, 3 healthy kittens, anyway...

She's now carried her kittens off into a more "private place" - my closet, where they are enjoying the clothes I'd left on the floor to donate to Goodwill after washing.

usefulness, apparently.
I bundled them all up in my arms to carry them back & look them over, & she took them right back.

What to do?
Have a drink and go to bed?
Yeah - sounds good. She's got this.

She gave birth to a 5th healthy kitten 24 hours ago, and was doing great as

a mama, until last night - she was lethargic, seemed a bit shocky - not used to her w/ empty eyes - and bleeding a fair amount.
I put an old comforter on the bed, in case she wanted to come back up, and fell asleep for a bit.
Woke up w/ her curled into my knees,
