UNPOPULAR OPINION: Jennie being the first member of BLACKPINK to go solo

IS NOT A PRIVILEGE AT ALL

A thread by me
1. First of all, she had the pressure of the whole group on her shoulders, if SOLO flopped she could have ruined the others three's chances of having their debut too. I'm sure none of the pinks wanted to go first.
2. Going second/third/fourth also brings the frightening thought of not being as successful as the previous solos, but at least their fanbase will have grown and now the fans can't wait for each members.
Jennie had her debut in late 2018, and probably won't have a comeback until the other three also all have their own debut, which is absolutely reasonable.

This also means, though, that the one debuting last, would have the biggest fanbase and chance to break records.
If, for example, SOLO came out in 2019 after KTL, it would have had double the exposure because of Coachella too.

However, the good thing is that Jennie was able to sing it live there, which is probably one of her best memory of those nights.
3. Jennie was the best choice, especially for the Korean market.

She's the most influential there (Jisoo being the only other of the four at that time probably almost equally famous).

This means that the other three would also profit off SOLO's success in SK.
Let's take our maknae, for example.

I love her with all my heart but unfortunately Korea doesn't do the same.

This means that if she were to debut first, she could have only relied on kblinks and not on the general public, unless the song really fitted their taste.
This would have made it very hard to chart.

I'm sure YG will focus on the international market when her time will come, but international fanbase in 2018 was only starting to get big because of DDDD, it wasn't comparable to nowadays numbers.

Trust me, I'm here since 2016.
For as much as yg is targeting the west, BLACKPINK still remains a KPOP group, which means that Korea's response (especially charts and numbers) are fundamental.

So why would YGE risk not choosing the most known one in Korea?
4. Also, if you're into other YG groups you'll also know that Main rappers usually have their debut first in the company and guess what? Jennie is one.

This feels more like tradition than privilege to me.
5. Jennie has been in YG the longest and it could have been their gift for her for all those years of sweat and tears, many companies, for example, choose as leader the one who trained the most years.
6. She was the most rounded member at that time.

Let me explain.

When you debut as a soloist, you need to able to catch the spotlight much more than in a group, where each member has
specific parts designed for their best qualities.
You must have out of the ordinary stage presence (if you want to be good, at least)

You also have to be good at dancing, singing, catching the attention and, in Jennie's case, rapping too.
Jennie had all these qualities, and she showed those in the previous comebacks, too. She was a true ace.

In terms of being well rounded, Rosé is probably the other choice, that's why she's supposed to debut second.
Rosé has the voice of an angel, dances better than many groups' main dancers and can fully fill the stage.

This made her equally able as Jennie to have a solo in 2018.

But she lacked something, which was SK major fame, and that's probably why she didn't go first.
In Jisoo's case the situation is the opposite. She had the fame, but lacked the presence at that time.

Remember she was supposed to be an actress and improved drastically to reach where she's today, and she was still improving after DDDD.
Jisoo's my fav voice in BP, but in 2018 she still needed confidence to debut solo, they still didn't have their first tour and she could have looked too unsure.

She now improved so much I'm sure she will be flawless. The tour helped her tremendously.
Our unnie going third is perfect in my opinion, she won't have the pressure of being the last while also having the time to nail every detail of her song, choreography etc.

I can't wait to hear a full song of her honey like raspy deep voice.
Now, coming to Lisa, she is undoubtedly
the most famous one in some big countries like Thailand, but as I've mentioned before, she's quite irrelevant (lack of taste and ignorance) in Korea.
Lisa is able to fill the stage like few people and is very good at rapping. But at this point she only sang a little bit in Forever Young and one line in Stay.
YG didn't show her vocal potential like in Hope not, so maybe at the time she wasn't ready yet to sing a full song by herself. There are producers and coaches helping them in every step and probably they knew what was better.
Sure, she could have had a rap song but I feel like Lisa, being the perfectionist she is, wanted everything to be amazing, even her vocal ability, so 2018 was too early.

Take into account that I'm basing this on BP official positions.
None of us knows BP abilities like the ones who gave them their official positions do, so if they say Lisa is a Sub-vocalist, I believe their word.

And it would just not make sense to debut a rapper and dancer first, unless it's a rap only song.
In the end, I can't wait for the other three members solos, and I really hope they'll come as soon as possible, and that they break every record possible because these girls really deserve it.
For them, I want good promotion, internationally filmed MVs and a catchy choreography, and possibly that they are given the chance to help writing their own solos.

For now, just remember that someone had to go first, and that happens to be Jen, just like one has to be last.
All I'm waiting for is to have the same experience as SBS Gayodaejun where either Rosé, Jisoo or Lisa are performing their solos and after the bridge, the other three enter and they finish the song together.

That would be a dream
