I'm an event guy and produced 100's of events on all seven continents including lead advance for Obama's Feb 2007 announcement in Waterloo, IA. For transparency, I'm also a Biden supporter and candidate for NC State Senate.
I've closely followed the reporting on @ReadeAlexandra. There is something about the "asked to serve drinks" part of Ms. Reade's story that piqued my interest based upon my 30 years of producing events. After producing literally 100's of political events, never once has U.S.
Senate or House staff, interns, or volunteers served drinks at an event I've produced. Nor have I ever heard of this staffing arrangement for a fundraising event. It is absurd from an event production or planning perspective.
Second, if the event was in DC it is not possible @ReadeAlexandra would be asked to serve drinks. DC is a union town and having a non-employee serve drinks at a hotel, bar, or restaurant is inconceivable. The restaurant and union would go apeshit because of union rules
and liability insurance prohibitions. @JoeBiden and his staff would have known the union rules and respected their rules due to his longstanding support of unions. If it was a private event at a home, that could be possible, but there was likely a caterer who wouldn't have a
paid U.S. Senate staffer serving for liability reasons (non-employees wouldn't be covered by liability insurance) and simply because it makes no sense to have a U.S. Senate staff, even a junior one, serving drinks. If it was a small home event, why would the host need someone to
serve drinks? Third, why would a U.S. Senator be focused on who was going to serve at an event? Did Joe B have a habit of picking staff to work at events? I doubt it. If he wanted to ogle her or take advantage of her, he would have asked her to "staff" him, in DC parlance.
Fourth, where was the event going to be held that @ReadeAlexandra says she was asked to serve? Did the event ever happen? Was Biden even in DC at that time? It would be easy to corroborate her story if she told us where & when the event was going to be held, even just the month.
Fifth, I was a U.S. Senate intern and an Iowa House of Reps page. I have also been working on campaigns since I was 10 years old in 1975
(including Tom Harkin, Paul Tsongas, Walter Mondale, Mike Dukakis, Tom Vilsack, etc.). I'm old and have seen a lot in campaigns and events. Never once have I heard or seen a candidate or elected official ask staff, interns, pages, or volunteers to serve cocktails at an official,
campaign, or personal event. Yes, "get me a coffee" or "drive me home" or other personal tasks, but not serving cocktails at a private (or public) event. Never once in my 30 years of producing events. It makes no sense.
I have also been a paralegal This is not event-related but what about her law degree? If she's hard up for cash, as it appears from other reporting, why isn't she being a lawyer in Washington state or California? She does not have a law license in CA or WA
(you can search the bar associations). If she hasn't passed the bar exam or failed it, there is nothing stopping her from being a well paid legal assistant at a law firm or corporation in CA. Has anyone dug into this yet? Does she even have a law degree? Finally, I have provided
this information to @ryangrim, @kthalps, @ReadeAlexandra, @RichMcHugh, @mviser & heard nothing other than Rich acknowledging receipt of my info. Has anyone asked Tara these questions? I have any she won't respond. cc: @biden_brigade @KHiveQueenBee @neeratanden
