I finished May Book #2 last night a little too late to post about it, but it was still wonderful.

It was Xeni, by Rebekah Weatherspoon.

What I loved about this book: Rebekah’s books always feel like such a warm hug to me, even when they deal with difficult topics.
The premise here was enough to make me feel really emotional—the heroine discovers that (a) her beloved aunt has left her a fuckton of money and (b) her aunt is actually her mother and (c) but only if she marries the guy her aunt has picked out for her
Normally plots like (c) ... bother me ... because these clauses in wills are of dubious legality. But it didn’t here because nobody actually questioned whether the clause was legal, and wills don’t have to stand up in court when nobody questions them in court.
The characters were like... okay, interesting clause? You seem nice, why not get rid of your student loan debt? The will stipulates we can get divorced after 30 days, so let’s just do this thing and get our money and then separate.
Both characters react with something like, okay, we’re married, we’re getting divorced, so let’s just be SUPER honest with each other and we’ll get through.

And that honesty leads to intimacy and vulnerability and opening up.
It was such a trusting relationship—in so many ways—especially sexually. I loved the way that it showed how it can be hard to trust people sexually if past partners have made you feel like you’re not sexy if you express your needs, and how GOOD it can be to have that trust.
Finally, this book was just FUNNY. I mean, like, Xeni is just HILARIOUS. Her internal dialogue is so full of wit and charm. The way she phrases things just had me muffling laughter in bed trying not to wake up my husband.
Just a good, sweet, loving read over all, the kind that makes you hug your iPad when you’re done and fall asleep happy.
(And to give you some idea of what I mean about being able to trust someone with your sexual desires, this book had the sweetest, most loving pegging scene I have ever read.)
