2 metres, 200cm. This is going to matter even more over the next few months. Have a think how many people have been within 2m of you over the past 48 hours. If you got symptoms and tested positive could you identify them all? 1/5
Social distancing is about stopping the spread but It’s also about reducing contacts. If you have been within 2m of someone for more than 15 mins - they are a contact. Now if you are wearing properly fitted PPE it’s unlikely you have caught it from them or passed it to them. 2/5
But for those going to work in clinical areas, if there are times you take off PPE and spend time with colleagues- you need to keep your distance. Imagine a nurse getting a positive test. In thinking back he remembers several points where he was within 2m of colleagues 3/5
These are now contacts, they have to isolate, they have to wait for seven days to see if they develop symptoms. But if they had all kept their distance... without social distancing the contact numbers could be 28. With distancing and household isolation: under 5 4/5
But for those that have to go out to work (clinical or not) keeping distance when out of your own household is vital to stop the spread. 2 metres, whenever you are out and about, even in clinical areas, cuts the contacts, reduces the disruption, keeps us all working and safe. 5/5
