F.R.I.E.N.D.S is probably the biggest sitcom in the history of television! I personally love it. But there was one aspect of the show that had far reaching effects on society which I did not like one bit!

On one hand, you have Ross! A PhD who is an expert in Paleontology aka the science of dinosaurs. Someone who went through the grind of grad school. Those who have a legit PhD will appreciate it better. I for one could never be able to get one. Then got into academics.
Got tenured and was teaching young students!! Who is in love with his high school sweetheart from the bottom of his heart.
On the other hand, you have Joey. An out of work actor, who is basically freeloading off his hard working roommate Chandler all along, while sleeping

Guess who is shown as cool and who is shown as stupid!
If you analyze it critically, Ross was smarter and more normal than the rest of his “FRIENDS” put together.
And yet society laughed loudest at him!

I am not a psychologist but I feel it had far reaching effects on American society in general. In a society where smart guys were already considered geeks, it made it worse.
I know some folks here might feel that I am over reacting but just think about his for a moment!
